What is Active Tracking?

With Active Tracking, you can create rules within Journey to redirect consumers who have clicked on a link embedded within a Creative (a marketing asset) to the Landing Page that is optimized for them. Optimization is based off data points collected, including the consumer’s  location, device, language, etc.

You can also use Active Tracking as a preventative measure against fraud and redirect fraudulent ad traffic away from your website. This feature ensures that performance metrics aren’t tainted by fraudulent activity.

What is a Campaign Unique Link?

A Campaign Unique Link is the URL that supports Active Tracking redirects of consumers to your Landing Page(s). The link is unique to a Campaign and provides granular controls over Sources and Affiliates as well as detailed reporting on Campaign performance.

Understanding the Link Parameter Structure

Journey has two different Campaign Unique Link structures:

  • Source Campaign Unique Link: this is for traffic from internal Sources, such as your email or social team, and provides you with granular reporting on performance metrics.

  • Affiliate Campaign Unique Link: this is for use with Affiliate Campaigns; it allows you to control redirects and payouts.

Within a Source’s Campaign Unique Link, you will see the following parameters:

  • Tracking Domain

  • SC: Campaign ID

  • C: Creative ID

  • S1, S2, S3, S4, S5: Open Reporting Parameters

Within an Affiliate Campaign Unique Link, you will see the following parameters:

  • Tracking Domain

  • A: Affiliate ID

  • C: Creative ID

  • S1: SubAffiliate ID

  • S2, S3, S4, S5: Open Reporting Parameters

  • P*: Price Format

*This value parameter key will distinguish the Price Format for an Affiliate’s Campaign. Note that the CPA Price Format does not have a value parameter key; the parameter will not be displayed in the link.

  •   CPC: p=c

  •   CPM: p=m

  •   RevShare: p=r

  •   Fixed: p=f

In order to use Active Tracking, you need to first create a Campaign and generate Campaign Unique Links. For more information, visit the Adding Campaigns and Generating Campaign Unique Links articles.
