What is a Journey Connection?

A Journey Connection makes ad campaign tracking fast and simple. The Journey Connection to Facebook Ads – which encompasses both Facebook and Facebook-owned Instagram ads – is easy to install, configure and use. With a simple wizard interface, you can quickly gain visibility into campaign performance, multi-touch attribution insights into Facebook and Instagram ad interactions throughout the customer journey, and the ability to report on multi-channel ROAS.

The Journey Connection to Facebook Ads allows you to easily configure tracking capabilities for the following Facebook Campaign Ad types:

  • Clicks to Website Objectives

  • Website Conversion Objectives

  • Lead Generation Objectives

  • Instagram Placements

How to Add a Facebook Ads Source

If you have multiple Facebook Ad Accounts, you will need to add a Source for each account. (For detailed steps on how to add a new Source, see the Adding Sources article.)

On the Add Source wizard, be sure to select Facebook Ads as your Connection type. Set the Channel to Social or Display. This will determine in which Channel your Source and Campaign stats will be available, as well as any customer journey path reporting at the Channel level.

How to Implement the Journey Tag

If you plan to use the Passive Tracking Template option (with URL parameters instead of tracking links), you must implement the Journey  Tag on your Landing Pages.

For a complete setup guide for the Journey Tag, see the Passive Tracking article.

Important to know:

  • Facebook Updates: CAKE receives hourly updates from Facebook for reporting.  Facebook allows a 24 hour window for accuracy, and 72 hours for cost accuracy, so stats may change during those hours as Facebook reconciles their reporting.

  • Malformed Tracking Templates: If your Active Tracking Template is malformed in any way, such as missing any of the parameters, Journey will redirect consumers to a 404 page so that your Ad will be paused. This ensures that users have instant feedback in the testing phase of integrating Journey tracking. (Otherwise, invalid links would appear as valid and redirect to the Landing Page, disrupting test results.)
