What is the Direct Channel?

The Direct Channel tracks consumers coming directly to your website, typically through typing in your website domain into the browser’s query string or using a bookmark to access the website.

Other customer interactions often attributed to the Direct Channel include:

  • A click from an untagged link in an email

  • A click from an untagged link in a PDF document

  • A user going from a link on a secure (https) website to a non-secure website (http), since a secure website won’t pass a referrer to non-secure websites

What is the Direct Source?

Within the Direct Channel is a Source called Direct, which is created and managed by the Journey system. (What you see in the user interface that’s labeled “Direct” is what we refer to here as “System Managed Direct Source.”) Direct, or the System Managed Direct Source, is used to capture customer journey touches that either do not have a referrer or have your website domain as the referrer.

To view the System Managed Direct Source, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Channels main tab

  2. Click the Channels side navigation

  3. Click on the Direct Channel icon

  4. Click on the Direct Source
