What is Targeting?


Targeting allows you to use customer attributes (e.g. location, language, device, etc.) to create an optimized user experience for your audience(s). This enables you to increase metrics such as click through rates (CTR), conversion rates (CVR), return on ad spend (ROAS) and others.



Targeting Attributes


When a customer clicks on a Journey Campaign Unique Link, attributes such as the customer’s location, language, device and more, are collected so that you can redirect the customer to the most optimal Landing Page.


Targeting attributes include:

  • User Agent 

  • Location (Country, Region and City level)

  • Device 

  • Operating System 

  • Browser 

  • ISP/Carrier 

  • Language 

  • URL

  • Referrer 

  • Percentage Split (used for A/B testing)

  • Click Score (ForensiQ Integration required)



How to Apply Targeting Rules to a Site Objective


Targeting is applied on an Objective level, providing deep granularity in how you can apply targeting efforts to your Campaigns. For example, Campaigns in the NORAM Region Objective will have different targeting rules applied to them than those in the LATAM Region Objective. 


To apply Journey’s Targeting Rules, complete the following steps on the Site card:

  1. Click on the Targeting tab

  2. Click Targeting

  3. Select the Site Objective from the drop-down

  4. Select Rules from the Targeting drop-down

  5. Click Apply 


To create a new Targeting Rule, complete the following steps:

  1. Click New Rule 

  2. Name the Targeting Rule

  3. Tick the Active box to make this Rule available

  4. Tick Shared if you would like to use this Rule on other Site Objectives

  5. Select the Redirect Site Objective or Landing Page to redirect customers to

  6. Select an attribute from the Add Rule Target drop-down 


Once a Rule Target has been selected, a new card will appear that displays the specific targeting options. For example, if you select Location, countries will appear that you can search or drill down into for region or city-level targeting. Or, if you select Device, options such as Android, iOS and others will appear.


To add Targeting Rules attributes, complete the following steps:

  1. Click on the green Action button to add selections

  2. Once all attributes have been selected, click Save to close this card

  3. Confirm Targeting Rules, then click Create 


To edit a Targeting Rule, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Name of the Rule

  2. Click the Edit icon


To delete a Targeting Rule and its attributes, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Name of the Rule

  2. Click the Remove icon


To apply a shared Targeting Rule, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Site Objective from the drop-down

  2. Click the Add Rule drop-down

  3. Select the Rule from the list

  4. Click Apply
