[Tracking Update] - Chromium Header Reduction & Client Hints

Elevating Your Experience with Enhanced Tracking Capabilities

We're thrilled to announce significant enhancements to our tracking capabilities, showcasing our commitment to staying at the forefront of technology. In response to the ever-evolving browser landscape, we have adapted and innovated, ensuring that you receive the best-in-class service.

Chromium and the User Agent Reduction Challenge

Chromium, the open-source web browser project behind Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera, serves as the foundation for our recent upgrades. The reduction of Chromium headers presented a unique challenge affecting our rules targeting capabilities on device lookups. Recognizing the need for agility, we've prioritized an enhancement that not only addresses this challenge but also takes our tracking capabilities to new heights.

Features Using User Agent in CAKE

Critical features such as reporting, session regeneration on click and conversion, and rules targeting on device/operating system rely on user agents.

Harnessing the Power of Client Hints

What are Client Hints? Client Hints, specified by Chromium, are headers sent by the browser to provide information about the client's capabilities. Leveraging this technology allows us to gather more nuanced data about users' devices, ensuring accurate and detailed insights.

Integration with WURFL Database Vendor

To fully harness Client Hints, we've seamlessly integrated with the WURFL database vendor. This partnership ensures access to a rich source of device information, maintaining robust and adaptable tracking capabilities.

Simplified User Agent Strings

Responding to Chromium's hints, we refined our understanding of user agent strings by identifying essential elements for compatibility and minimizing unnecessary data. This meticulous process prioritizes user privacy while ensuring uninterrupted functionality.

Improved Device Lookup Rules

Our team enhanced device lookup rules by seamlessly integrating them with Client Hints and aligning them with Chromium's specifications. Optimized for the WURFL database vendor, these rules maximize accuracy and depth of information, reinforcing our commitment to delivering reliable data for your rules targeting capabilities.

What Changes in CAKE?

When this feature is released,  CAKE will do an additional redirect when the browser is using the Chromium webkit.

ch-redir=1 will be appended to all click and conversion requests from Chromium users since there are click and conversion features that require the user agent.

In summary, these deliberate steps have fortified our ability to maintain and elevate our service, providing you with a robust platform for rules-targeting capabilities. We're excited about the possibilities these enhancements bring and look forward to continuing our journey of technological advancement with you.
