Understanding Host and Post Routing Settings

This article will cover the following:

Overview of Routing Settings

In addition to the payment settings, the Host and Post Parameters panel on the Lead Gen tab of the Offer card contains several settings that control how CAKE's Router evaluates and sells leads. These settings allow you to fine-tune lead routing behavior, including queue handling, ping delivery prioritization, exclusivity rules, and sale attempt timeouts.

These settings are found in the same panel as the payment settings, on the right side of the Lead Gen tab of the Offer card.

Send Host and Post Failures to Queue

Normally, leads that fail to sell are sent to the Scrub Queue. When this setting is enabled, CAKE instead sends those failed leads to the Queue as it would with Hosted leads.

Important:
Unlike Hosted leads, the payment rules of a Host and Post offer still apply when this setting is enabled. Even if a lead sells from the Queue later, no payment adjustment is made and the lead remains unpaid to the Affiliate.

Ping First

When Ping First is enabled, CAKE will post to any configured ping delivery methods before attempting a standard lead sale. This allows CAKE to assess whether routing prioritization should change based on the Buyer ping responses received before committing the lead to a Buyer.

Sell Exclusive Only

When Sell Exclusive Only is enabled, CAKE restricts lead sale evaluation to only Buyer contracts that have exclusive delivery schedules configured. Buyer contracts without exclusive schedules are excluded from consideration.

Host and Post Timeout

The Host and Post Timeout setting defines the maximum duration (in milliseconds) CAKE will spend attempting to sell a lead before aborting the sale attempt.

This setting is particularly useful when a large number of Buyers are available, as it ensures CAKE can respond to the incoming lead post in a timely fashion and prevents excessive processing time from degrading system performance.

Tip:
Set this value based on your expected response time requirements. A lower timeout improves response speed but may result in fewer Buyers being evaluated. A higher timeout allows more Buyers to be considered but increases the time before CAKE responds to the lead post.
