How to Manage Event Visibility in the Affiliate Portal Using Publish Events

This article will cover:

What is the Publish Events Setting?

The Publish Event setting allows you to control which Conversions or Events are visible to the Affiliate in the Affiliate portal, whether or not the Event has a payout associated with it. The Publish Event setting can be managed on the Advertiser, Offer, Offer Contract, and Campaign levels.

An Event with the Publish Event setting enabled will behave in the following manner:

  • The Event will be displayed on the Offer card in the Affiliate Portal

  • The Event will be shown in the Affiliate Portal Reports

  • The Affiliate’s Pixel will fire when the Event is tracked

How to Publish an Event on the Advertiser Level

When an Event has the Publish Event setting enabled on an Advertiser level, the Event will be visible to Affiliates in the Affiliate Portal (Offer card and Reports) and will fire the Affiliate’s pixel by default for all Offers and Campaigns under that Advertiser, unless the Publish Event setting is overwritten on the Offer, Contract, or Campaign level.

To enable the Publish Event setting on an Advertiser level Event, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Advertiser card

  2. Click the Events tab

  3. Click on the Event Name from the list

  4. Tick the Publish Events box

  5. Click Save

Note:

If you disable the Publish Event setting, the Payout/Price Paid to the Affiliate for the Event will automatically be set to $0.00. The Event will continue to show in the Admin Portal Reports but will be hidden from the Affiliate Portal and will no longer fire an Affiliate’s pixel.

How to Publish an Event on the Offer or Contract Level

When an Event has the Publish Event setting enabled on an Offer or Offer Contract level, the Event will be visible to Affiliates in the Affiliate Portal (Offer card and Reports) and will fire the Affiliate’s pixel by default for all Campaigns under that Offer, unless the Publish Event setting is overwritten on a Contract or Campaign within the Offer.

To enable the Publish Event setting on an Offer or Contract level Event, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Offer card

  2. Click the Events tab

  3. Select the Offer Contract if there are multiple for this Offer

  4. Click on the Event Name from the list

  5. Tick the Publish Events box

  6. Click Save

  7. Repeat as needed for additional Offer Contracts

How to Publish an Event on the Campaign Level

When an Event has the Publish Event setting enabled on a Campaign level, the Event will be visible to the Affiliate in the Affiliate Portal (Offer card and Reports) and will fire the Affiliate’s pixel for that Campaigns.

To enable the Publish Event setting on a Campaign level Event, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Campaign card

  2. Click the Events tab

  3. Click on the Event Name from the list

  4. Tick the Publish Events box

  5. Click Save

Note:

If you disable the Publish Event setting, the Payout/Price Paid to the Affiliate for the Event will automatically be set to $0.00. The Event will continue to show in the Admin Portal Reports but will be hidden from the Affiliate Portal and will no longer fire the Affiliate’s pixel.

How to Suppress Unpaid RevShares from the Affiliate Portal

If you capture revenue dynamically on a RevShare price format Offer, you may want to hide conversions that do not have revenue or a payout associated with them from the Affiliate Portal. The Suppress Unpaid RevShares setting in CAKE will override the Publish Event setting in the scenario where a conversion or event is recorded with a zero dollar revenue passed to CAKE on the pixel (e.g. p=0.00). With this setting enabled, CAKE will hide the unpaid conversion or event from the Affiliate’s reporting and the Affiliate’s pixel will not be fired, even if the Publish Event setting is enabled.

To enable the Suppress Unpaid RevShares setting, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Setup main tab

  2. Click the Settings sub-tab

  3. Click Tracking Settings sub-tab

  4. Tick the Suppress Unpaid RevShare box

  5. Click Save

Note:

This setting also impacts leads. If a lead is tracked on a RevShare Offer with a revenue and payout of $0.00 CAKE will not fire the Affiliate’s pixel or show the lead conversion in Affiliate Portal reports.

How to Manage Visibility of Conversions and Events Added Manually

If you add conversions or event records manually through the CAKE Mass Adjustment tool, API, or CSV Reconciliation tool, and want to manage the visibility of those conversions/events in the Affiliate Portal you can use an unpaid disposition to do so. An unpaid disposition on a conversion/event will hide the record(s) from the Affiliate Portal reports, even if the Event has “Publish Event” enabled.

To hide an unpaid conversion/event added manually from the Mass Adjustment tool, follow these steps:

  1. Set the Price Paid field to $0.00

  2. Click the Unpaid Disposition dropdown

  3. Select an Unpaid Disposition

  4. Complete the Mass Adjustment tool wizard

To hide an unpaid conversion/event added manually via API, follow these steps:

  1. Leverage the GET Unpaid Disposition API to access all available Unpaid Disposition IDs

  2. Pass an Unpaid Disposition ID on the Mass Conversion Insert API

To hide an unpaid conversion/event added manually from CAKE’s CSV Reconciliation tool, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Setup tab

  2. Click on the Tools sub-tab

  3. Fill in required fields

  4. Click Get Unpaid Disposition IDs

  5. Select any ID greater than 0 to hide visibility

  6. Update your csv file and save locally

  7. Select Choose file

  8. Click Save

FAQ

Will I be able to control the visibility of conversions on CPC or CPM Campaigns?

No, because on a CPC Campaign the click is the conversion, and on a CPM Campaign, 1000 impressions are the conversion, and there is no way to hide clicks and impressions from the Affiliate Portal.

What will happen to previously tracked Conversions/Events if I update the Publish setting?

Previously tracked conversions will reflect the behavior of the updated Publish Events setting. This means previously tracked Conversions/Events will begin to show in the Affiliate Portal if the setting is enabled. If the setting is disabled, previously displayed Conversions/Events will be removed from the Affiliate Portal.
