How to Create Lead Tiers and Configure Filters

Part of the Lead Tiers series. This article covers creating tiers and setting up filters. For the full overview, see How to Enable Lead Tiers and Tier Payouts.

This article will cover the following:

How to Create Lead Tiers

Lead Tiers are created and maintained at the Vertical level because they are field-dependent — fields are also stored on the Vertical Card. When Lead Tiers are first enabled, no tiers exist and must be added manually.

  1. Open the Vertical Card for the relevant Vertical.
  2. Click the Lead Tiers tab.
  3. Click Add Tier.
  4. Fill in the required fields (see below).
  5. Click Save.
  6. Repeat for each tier in your structure.

Lead Tier Fields Explained

Each Lead Tier requires the following fields:

  • Name — A descriptive label for the tier (e.g. "College Graduate", "High School", "Tier 1 — Premium").
  • Price — The affiliate payout assigned to leads that qualify for this tier.
  • Group — (Optional) Categorizes tiers into broader groupings. Group-level stats are viewable under Reports → Lead Tier Groups (requires permission to be enabled).
  • Active — Whether CAKE should evaluate incoming leads against this tier. Leave unchecked while configuring — remember to activate it when setup is complete.

How to Add Lead Tier Filters

Lead Tiers require filters that define which field values qualify a lead for each tier. Before applying filters to a tier, the filters must first be created in CAKE's filter library:

  1. Go to Setup → Filters.
  2. Click Add Filter.
  3. Enter a Name for the filter, select the Field it evaluates, and choose the comparison Operator (equals, contains, greater than, etc.).
  4. Click Save.

If you haven't added your vertical fields yet, do so before creating filters — filters reference specific lead fields.

How to Apply Filters to a Tier

Once filters are created, apply them to a Lead Tier from the Vertical Card:

  1. Open the Vertical Card → Lead Tiers tab.
  2. Click the tier you want to configure.
  3. In the filter dropdown, find and select the appropriate filter.
  4. Enter the qualifying value(s) in the field to the right. If there are multiple values, separate them with a | (pipe character).
  5. Click Save.
Example: A filter named "Education Level" on the highest_education field with an operator of "equals", and values college|graduate would match any lead where the education field is "college" or "graduate".

How to Remove Lead Tiers

To remove a filter from a tier, click the red minus (−) button to the right of the tier you want to remove.

To deactivate a tier without deleting it, uncheck the Active checkbox and save. CAKE will stop evaluating leads against an inactive tier.
